STEM NOW and Winchester Science Centre could not wait to get involved in British Science Week. We were involved in many activities over the 10 day celebration of STEM, but on the 17th and 18th March we held a pop up science centre in West Quay Shopping Centre Southampton. Many enthusiastic shoppers turned their gaze towards the great science experiments and the fantastic 'World of Gases' live show.
Some of the experiment highlights include the fun 'Bubble Density' and 'Dancing Water Dragon Bowl'. Winchester Science Centre teamed up with the Royal Society of Chemistry and BOC to deliver the amazing show ‘The Secret World of Gases’. The show included awe-inspiring demonstrations using liquid nitrogen, solid carbon dioxide and hydrogen that were incredibly exciting!
The public engaged and get hands-on with Farnborough International Airshow and our very own Science Inspirers in the pop-up Invention Studio with the variety of activities. Dr Emma Lofthouse of the University of Southampton brought along The a-MAZE-ing Placenta, an educational and brilliantly interactive game that demonstrates the complexities of pregnancy. Such fun was had and the day was supported by many the STEM Ambassadors who volunteered their time to help inspire and engage. Thank you to all who got involved!
Also a special thanks to the BOC and the Royal Society of Chemistry!
We would love to hear what you have been up to for British Science Week, so if you are a STEM Ambassador please log your STEM activity on the STEM Ambassador digital platform.
